New Works aims to provide sustainable, equitable, and accessible theatre education in San Antonio and performance that empowers students as creators and artists, helping them to find personal, academic, and artistic success and fulfillment.

OUR VISION

Art prepares us for the world, making us better creators, communicators, and people. So often, however, opportunities for artistic expression are restricted by cultural, political, and financial barriers. We dream of a world where opportunities for artistic creation and collaboration are available and accessible to all - regardless of race, gender identity, and socioeconomic status.

Nerdy Prudes Must Die!

Come join us for our Fall 2026 musical!

This students choice musical is the perfect Fall show for our program. Operating as our second 13+ Hatchetfield production by Starkid Productions we’re back in Hatchet Town by popular demand! After the success of our Summer 2025 13+ Musical ‘The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals’ our students made it clear they love Hatchetfield and you will too!

Sign up your nerdy theatre kid for this semester class and expand their musical horizons- after all when else are you going to get to say you’re in a ‘pop-rock horror-comedy musical’ (well unless you were in TGWLDM)!?

Wither you’re a nerdy prude or an evil jock this show has something for everyone!

Rehearsals starting the 21st of August and shows November 20th, 21st, and 22nd.

New Works' Free College Prep Program is Back — Bigger, Better & More Powerful Than Ever This Spring

Our College Prep Program has been revamped! This semester we're bringing in two extraordinary new mentors; Broadway performer and ATAC Award-winning choreographer EB Mota and beloved San Antonio arts community builder Stephan Gaeth, both co-owners of our incredible new partner studio, River Alchemy of Creative Arts in Southtown. Together with our own Jo Jones and Andrew Walker, this powerhouse team will guide juniors and seniors through everything from auditions, prescreens, and college applications to headshots, artistic résumés, and scholarship strategy. If your student is thinking about life after high school in the arts, this is the program that will get them there.

This season our Artistic Director, Jo Jones, is taking us on a journey of Fantasy, Monsters, and Myths. From Mythology musicals like Hadestown: Teen Edition, Jasper in Deadland, and The Lightning Thief to our upcoming play She Kills Monsters; we look forward to enchanting and captivating students and audiences alike with this incredible season.
